Motivation
Across a variety of industries and sectors, document authenticity is the bedrock of how different legal entities interact with each other. Legal agreements, trade deals, and contracts are often described via traditional documents such as PDF and Docx files.
To minimize exposure to risk, customers require a method of certifying the authenticity of these documents in a trustless manner. This project aims to provide document authenticity/certification functionality to customers to achieve this requirement.
Overview
Blockchain is a distributed ledger technology that maintains copies of an entire ledger across all nodes on its network. It has provided a trustless environment to conduct transactions that are reflected in this ledger. When we say “trustless”, we mean that mechanisms exist that all nodes on the network can agree on the canonical truth of the state of the ledger.
Within these ledger transactions, we can add additional data. An example of this additional data could be a digital fingerprint of an external data source.
Within the context of the specified problem, this fingerprint will be of a PDF document or documents.
